Celebrating Imperfect Communion

Abstract Restricted participation in celebrating eucharist remains a very visible victim of ecclesial divisions. Ecclesial self-understandings, theologies eucharist, and notions ecumenicity are deeply interwoven. Modern ecumenical engagement presupposes more critical historiography its attempts to deconstruct naively self-interested narrations identity, particularly the ways which competing visions apostolicity were connected primal plenitude koinonia. Such deconstruction draws on sustained liminal experiences encounter dialogue between churches over course past century, is itself an expression communion not unlike that discerned by historians earliest Christianity.
